Evon M. Yameen, 86, of Methuen, MA and Hampton Beach, NH passed away Saturday surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lawrence, MA to Lebanese immagrant parents Rose (Lebbos) and James Yameen. Evon attended Lawrence public schools. As a child Evon started working with her father, brothers and uncles at the U-Save Market in Lawrence, MA. After graduating high school Evon was accepted to Boston University School of Business. Following the death of her father Evon stayed in Lawrence to work with her brothers at the Thrift Food Market on South Union Street. She along with her brothers Bill, Kenny, Danny and Tommy in 1955 opened The Butcher Boy Market, one of the first stores to be located on Salem, NH's busy route 28. Evon with her family also ran the Butcher Boy Steakhouse in North Andover and the Butcher Boy Restaurant in Nashua NH. In 1966 Evon and her family decided to replace their small meat market in North Andover with what is now The Butcher Boy Market Place.
Evon loved playing cards, spending winters in Florida, dancing, cocktails and music. Evon could be seen right up to her last days at Butcher Boy Market where she loved to be. She was known for her class and elegance and was always popular with customers. Evon was very close to her family, especially her sister Joyce.
Evon was predeceased by her companion of forty years Phillip DeFrancesco. She leaves behind her sister Joyce and her husband Dr. Joseph S. Maroun, brother William J. Yameen, brother Kenneth and his wife Catherine, brother Thomas and his longtime companion Kathy Timmons, sister in law Elaine M. Yameen and several nieces and nephews. Evon was also predeceased by her brother Daniel and sister in law Ann F. Yameen. Evon was a tough, well respected business woman, a generous aunt, godmother and friend to many. She will be missed.
There will be no calling hours but relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday May 12th at 10 AM at St Anthony Maronite Church 145 Amesbury Street in Lawrence with burial to follow at St Anthony Maronite Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Evon's honor may be made to St Anthony Maronite Church 145 Amesbury Street Lawrence MA 01841.
