Obituary


John Edward “Jack” Kane, of Marshfield, formerly of Quincy, Abington and West Falmouth passed away on May9th. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Arthur) Kane.

John was born in Boston on December 19, 1929, the only son of the late John Patrick and Anna V (Glynn) Kane. He leaves a step daughter Gay Bergeron Regele and her husband Albert of Marshfield, step son Kenneth Bergeron and his wife Mary of Abington, his son Christopher T. Kane and his wife Kathy of Abington. He also leaves several grandchildren and one great grandchild. John also leaves a sister Eleanor Kane Cullinane and her husband Joseph of FL. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marie Walsh, Margaret Testa, Ursula Hurley and Barbara Roberts.

John graduated from Quincy High School in 1948 and then was employed at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and then as an apprentice plumber in the Quincy union. After serving in the United States Navy during the Korea War on the U.S.S.L.S.T.1081. John graduated from Fitchburg State University in 1956 with a BS degree majoring in industrial arts.

He taught industrial arts at South Junior High School in Braintree and Braintree High School from 1956 to 1996. He earned a master’s degree at Bridgewater State University. During these years he taught furniture refinishing, home repairs and woodworking at numerous evening adult education programs on the south shore. Upon retirement from Braintree High School, he substituted at various Falmouth Schools as well as at upper Cape vocational school.

Upon moving to West Falmouth in 1985, John and his wife Beverly owned and operated The Old Silver Beach Bed and Breakfast for 26 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Thursday May 15th at 9:30AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by his burial in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 11:30AM. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 14th from 5:00-8:00.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Falmouth Senior Center, 300 Dillingham Ave., Falmouth, MA 02540
