Augusta, GA – Mr. John Stephen “Steve” Lathem, 60, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Rev. Randy Adams officiating. Interment will be held at 4:00 PM in Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 3405 Oak Hill Church Rd, Millen, GA, 30442.
Steve loved music and was the drum major and trombone player in the Jenkins County High School Marching Band. He loved the Christmas season and Christmas decorations. Steve kept his Christmas tree decorated year round. He was a fiercely independent man but he also would give whatever he could to help those in need.
Steve is survived by his longtime partner, Dennis Winkle; his daughter, Stephenie Adams (Randy) of Garfield, GA; his brother, Larry Lathem (Cindy); and by his grandchildren, Joshua, Aaron, and Madilyn Adams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Adams, Aaron Adams, Hayley Lathem, Leland Kelley, and Dennis O’Shields.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home the day of the services from 11:00 until service time.
