Norman L. "Red" Finucane, 86 of Smithfield passed peacefully surrounded by his family on May 7th, 2014. He was the devoted husband of Claire M. (O’Brien) Finucane for 60 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Edward and Catherine (Kenney) Finucane.
Norman is survived by his six children: Maureen Esposito and her husband, Anthony of Harrisville, John Finucane and his wife, Joan of Smithfield, James Finucane and his wife, Melody of Foster, William Finucane and his wife, Ana of Guilford, CT, Gail Conte and her husband, Paul of Cranford, NJ and Patricia Ventura and her husband, Robert of East Greenwich. He was the beloved “Gramp” to 12 grandchildren: Daniel, Mark and Michael Esposito, Jennifer and Sean Finucane, Joseph, Dominic, Edward, Alanna, and Anthony Conte and Lucas and Erin Ventura. He was also the Great grandfather of Ryleigh, Adisyn, and Delaney Esposito, Conner Chambers and Ethan Esposito, and McKenzie Esposito. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Maroney of East Greenwich. He was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Verne and his sister Ruth Lawlor.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines. He was the owner of Norm’s Service in Esmond for 30 years, a Life Member of Johnston FD, Hose 3 and an avid hockey fan and player. He was a team member of the Rhody Oldies Hockey Club and played his last game in November.
A Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday at 10am in St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Interment will be at RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter at a later date. Visitation 4-7pm Friday in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Michael’s Church Food Pantry or Home and Hospice Care of RI.
