Joan C. Echols, 83, passed from this life peacefully and heaven gained another angel to watch over us on May 1, 2014. She was born November 9, 1930, daughter of Anna ( Schmitt) and Harry A. Geibel of Mystic, CT.
Joan was a beautiful woman on the inside and outside. She was such a wonderful devoted mother, who loved her family and friends more than you could imagine.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, shopping, scarves, lots of jewelry and especially cooking. She would always be so excited when she came up with a new weekly recipe for some new concoction for all to try, it was always so delicious and yummy.
She was a little social butterfly, who would be there to help with always a smile for anyone she would meet.
She is survived by her children ( Daughter ) Jeannemarie Echols of Merrimack, NH ( Son ) Kenneth B. Echols and his wife Maureen of Manalapan, NJ and ( Son ) Robert M. Echols and his wife Michele of Philipsburg, NJ as well as her cherished Grandchildren: Michael Robert and wife Maria, Billy John, Kimberly and Kaylie. She also leaves her Brother: Harold P. Geibel of Mystic CT, nephew Dr. John ( Jack ) Geibel and his wife Annmarie of Branford CT, nephew Anthony P. Alicchio and his wife Lisa of Westerly RI, nephew James M. Alicchio and his wife Kristin of Westerly RI, niece Nancy ( Alicchio ) Cascale and husband Michael of Charlestown RI and ex-husband Robert W. Echols of Manahawkin NJ along with many other great-nephews and great-niece.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her twin sister Doris M. Alicchio and her husband Anthony of Westerly RI, sister-in-law Eleanor Geibel of Mystic, aunt Louise and uncle John Rossie ( Prior owners of the historical Rossie Velvet Mill which manufactured fine velvet fabric ) and cousin Louise K Rossie of Mystic.
Her family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, May 8, from 5 to 7 pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic CT. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Cemetery, River Road, Old Mystic CT.
