Obituary

In Taunton, May 3, 2014 Edward F. Duarte, Age 72, passed away in his home with his loving family by his side. Edward was born in Taunton, the son of the late Frank & Phoebe (Frates) Duarte. He attended Taunton schools and was a graduate of Stonehill College in Easton. Edward served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Marine Corps and later during Desert Storm. He was a police officer, retiring after 30 years from the Taunton Police Department. Edward served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Taunton Federal Credit Union, also a member of the VFW. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and traveling, especially to the Caribbean and above all cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. Edward leaves his children Sharon Masterson and her husband Richard of Berkley, Edward F. Duarte Jr. of Taunton, Jennifer Duarte of Taunton, Melissa Foley and her husband William of Taunton, Heidi Duarte of Taunton and his late daughter Heather Duarte. He also leaves his grandchildren Joshua, Steven and Courtney Masterson, Megan McMurray, Harrison Mattos, Sophia Foley, Rebecca White and John Pilling. Edward also is survived by his siblings Catherine Bellanger and Evelyn Perry both of Boston and Alfred Duarte, he was preceded in death by his other eight siblings. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Thursday, May 8th at 9 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday from 5-8 pm. Burial will be at the Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne MA at 2:45 pm.
