Richard M. Souza, "Dick the Singing Barber" 87, of Westport died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Sarah Brayton Skilled and Rehabilitative Nursing Care. He was the husband of Henriette R. (Martel) Souza, they were married for 65 years.
Born in Westport, he was son of the late Frank M. and Frances (Correia) Souza. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the sole proprietor of Dick’s Barber Shop in Fall River. Mr. Souza was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. A graduate of Westport High School, where he played football, baseball and basketball, he was inducted into the Westport High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. He was a charter and honorary life member of the St. Isadore the Farmer Council #4373 Knights of Columbus, a 4th Degree member of the Fr. Donahue Council of Tiverton, RI Knights of Columbus, and was a former state officer for the Massachusetts Master Barbers Association.
Including his wife, he is survived by a son: Marc R. Souza and his wife Debra L. (Thurston) of Little Compton; a niece and 2 nephews. He was brother of the late Eugene Souza.
Private arrangements were held under the direction of the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.
