Obituary

DONOVAN, Daniel D. Jr. of Weston MA, age 82, was surrounded by his family when he died on Tuesday April 29, 2014.

Born in West Hartford, CT, on Dec 5, 1931, he was the only son of the late Daniel D. Donovan and Ruth (McCandrew) Donovan. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sally Ann (MacLeod) Donovan, and his devoted children and their families: Dana Donovan and his wife Beverly of Wellesley; Leslie Shakespeare and her husband David; Gregory Donovan and his wife Ann of West Hartford ,CT; Melissa R. Donovan of New York City; Sarah M. Donovan of Caracas, Venezuela; and Rosemary M. Lydon of Weston. Dan was a beloved grandfather to Katherine, Laura, Gregory, Sean, Daniel, Joseph, and Veronica.

Dan Donovan was born and raised in West Hartford CT. He graduated from Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, CT. Dan graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1953 with a B.S. in engineering. After serving five years on destroyers, the USS Monson and the USS Grouper, he went to work in private industry as an industrial engineer. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with his M.B.A. and joined Peat Marwick Mitchell as a consultant in 1965. Dan worked for KPMG for 42 yrs., retiring as a Senior Partner in charge of the consulting practice in the East.

Dan served as a fiscal adviser to the mayor of Hartford, as a member of the West Hartford school board, and as a trustee of the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art. He also served as vice president of the Boston chapter of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and as a member of the finance committee of the U.S.S. Constitution Museum.

In addition, he was active on the board of directors for the Weston Golf Club and served on the Weston Finance Committee. Dan enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage in Manomet where he could be found playing golf, boating, gardening and taking long walks with his family and beloved dogs.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Saturday, May 3 at 10 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Julia Church, Weston Center at 11 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday, May 2 from 4-7 pm. Interment Linwood Cemetery, Weston followed by a reception at the Weston Golf Club.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or to the WoundedWarriorsProject at woundedwarriorproject.org.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the attention, care and compassion extended to Dan and his relatives by the staff at the Newton Wellesley Alzheimer's Center.
