Obituary

James E. Driscoll, 57, of West Boylston, formerly of Worcester, died unexpectedly Monday, April 28th. Jim was the youngest of six children of the late Cornelius S. Driscoll and Catherine M. (McCann) Driscoll. He graduated from Doherty Memorial High School and Fitchburg State College with a degree in special education; and later earned his master’s degree from Worcester State College. Jim taught in the Worcester Public Schools Special Education Dept. for 35 years, retiring in 2012; he had taught at Belmont Street and Rice Square Schools. He also worked at Camp Joy, in Worcester, with special needs children for many summers.

He leaves a sister, Kathleen M. Larson and her husband, Richard of Englewood, FL and Narragansett, RI; three brothers, C. Stephen and his wife, Gail, of Estero, FL and Kennebunkport, ME, John J. and his wife Deborah, of Sutton, and Mark F. and his wife, Kathleen of Clinton; three nieces, Eileen McGinty and her husband, Brett, Margaret Driscoll, and Mary Driscoll, a nephew Cornelius Driscoll, and a grand niece Fiona McGinty. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia.

Jim enjoyed gardening with flowers, traveling the world, going on cruises, and having fun with his close friends. He was also very active in the Blessed Sacrament Parish, serving on the parish council and as a lector. In 2003, he was awarded the Shortsleeve Faith and Action Award for outstanding service to the parish. Jim was generous with his time and served Meals on Wheels in West Boylston. He was an active member of the NEA, MTA, EAW, Retired Educators of MA, and a member of the AOH, Division 36. Jim will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and caring person who was proud of his Irish heritage.

His funeral is Monday, May 5th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, May 4th from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in Jim's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
