Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Christine “Jackie” Dion, 90, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, April 28, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Kindred Country Estates of Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late Frank J. and Anna M. (Wilson) Sullivan. In the 1940’s, she came with her family to Springfield and graduated from the High School of Commerce. She was employed for many years at the Springfield School Department. Jackie was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a longtime communicant of Saint Mary Church, now Mary, Mother of Hope Church, in East Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Roger J. Dion who was Called Home on November 3, 2007. They were married on August 11, 1943 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving children, Roger J. Dion, Patricia J. Poindexter and her husband, Earl, and Kathy A. Dion, all of Springfield, and Jill D. Fox and her husband, A. Stephen Fox, III, of West Springfield; her five cherished grandchildren, Michael Poindexter, Jeffrey Poindexter and his wife, Stephanie, Jamiel Poindexter and Sarah Cherry, Anthony Poindexter and his wife, Lori, and Stephanie Fox; her six cherished great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Poindexter, Miles and Otis Poindexter, and Sara, Alex and Claire Poindexter; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Dion and Sullivan families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her eight siblings. Her family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre –Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road, Suite 2, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to the Alzheimers Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
