John M. Hansel, 95

John M. Hansel, age 95, recently of Wales, a former 71 year resident of Mansfield passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield, MA. He was the beloved husband of Merle I. (Quinham) Hansel to whom he was wed on October 26, 1940.
Born in Roslindale, MA on March 12, 1919, he was a loving son of the late Maurice and Edna I. (Boutilier) Hansel. He grew up in Avon and was a 1937 graduate of the Norfolk County Agricultural School.
Prior to retiring in 1981, Mr. Hansel had worked for 40 years at the former A & P Supermarkets, and retired with the position of the Meat Department Head.
John was a member of the First Christian Church in West Mansfield, where he also served as a former member of the Board of Deacons. He enjoyed gardening and reading, but most of all he treasured the times spent with his adoring family.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children; Mark V. Hansel and his wife Janna of Warren, MA, Margo Chevers of Wales, MA, Karen Fuller and her husband Jonathan of Grey, Maine, Kurt A. Hansel of Winchester, MA, and Nathan P. Hansel and his wife Paula of Pascoag, RI. He is also survived by his cherished 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, as well as 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
His memorial service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 10:00 A.M. in the First Christina Church, 11 Otis St., West Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
