Betty Zabel, 95, long-time Grandview resident, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 in Mile City, Montana.
She was born on May 25, 1918 to Edna (Bull) and William Guy Kirscher in Townsend, Montana where she was raised and educated. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Montana State University in Bozeman. Betty married William E. Zabel on October 12, 1940 and resided in Malta, Montana until the family moved to Washington in 1962.
She taught Jr. High and Middle School students in the Grandview School District for thirteen years. Betty was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grandview. In later years Betty resided with her sister at El Dorado retirement home in Sun City and was a member of Willowbrook Methodist Church in Sun City.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Smith and her husband, Douglas of Mile City, Montana; her son, William Gerald Zabel of Prosser; two grandchildren, Wesley GW Smith of Fairbanks, Alaska and Lorna Days of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; nine great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Zimmerman of Sun City, Arizona; sister-in-law, Lois Kirscher of Oceanside, California, sister-in-law Barbara Kirscher of Townsend, Montana and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William E. Zabel July of 1999.
Viewing will be held at Prosser Funeral Home on Monday, April 28th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A time of reminiscing and sharing of memories will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29th at the Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Habitat for Humanity or your favorite charity.
