Obituary

In Taunton, April 27, 2014. George E. Dion, age 82, passed away at home following a lengthy illness while surrounded by his loving family. George leaves his wife Mary Carol (Gregg) of Taunton. George was born in Taunton, the son of the late Helen (Corr) and George E. Dion Sr. For the past 15 years, George resided in Bridgewater, and prior to that resided in Raynham for 29 years. George attended Taunton schools and was a 1949 graduate of Taunton High School, and a 1953 graduate of Stonehill College where he graduated first in his accounting class and was awarded the president’s gold medal for accounting excellence. As a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, George served his country during the Korean War, and was later employed as a CPA for New England Life in Boston, where he was appointed Vice President. After his retirement, George worked as a consultant for the Commonwealth of MA insurance division. He was also the proprietor of his own tax accounting practice in Raynham for many years. George was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, as well as a member of St. Vincent DePaul’s Society and congregant at St. Ann’s Church in Raynham, where he was also a Eucharistic Minister. For 45 years, George enjoyed playing monthly poker games with his Raynham neighbors. Above all, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who cherished his family time. In addition to his wife, George leaves behind his children Mary Doyle and her husband Robert of Weymouth, Catherine Eddlem and her husband Thomas of Taunton, Susan Turgeon and her husband Kenneth of Cranberry Township, PA, and Patricia Parent and her husband James of Taunton. He was preceded in death by his siblings Robert and Dorothy Dion, and his half brother David Sibor. George also lovingly leaves his nine grandchildren of whom he was so proud: Robert and Daniel Doyle; Alison, Marisa, and Bridget Eddlem; Nicholas and Shannon Turgeon; and Alexandra and Peyton Parent, as well as several nieces and nephews. George also lovingly leaves his many life-long Taunton friends. The funeral will be held from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St. in Taunton, MA on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Church in Raynham at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton on Thursday, May 1, 2014 between 4-7 pm. The burial will be in the family lot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
