Obituary

Eva E. (Lahtinen) Tuomi, 94, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 in the Rose Monahan Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 56 years, Oiva R. "Rudy" Tuomi predeceased her in 1998. She was also predeceased by a son Gary V. Tuomi in 1993, and sisters Helen Hannula and Elsie Demars. She leaves two sons, Todd R. Tuomi and Alexis Ane and Glenn A. Tuomi and his wife, Debra; a grandson, Ryan G. Tuomi; 4 granddaughters, Karen Tuomi, Elizabeth (Tuomi) King and her husband Timothy, Emily (Tuomi) Hoadley and her husband Michael, and Adrianna (Tuomi) Tyskiewicz and her husband Michael; 8 great-grandchildren, Lorina and Dean Sediqui, Gavin Tuomi, Zoe and Zach Hoadley, Cooper and Abigail King, and Ryan Tyskiewicz; and several nieces and nephews.

Eva was born in Worcester, daughter of Selma (Toivonen) and Victor Lahtinen. She grew up in the Finnish Community on Bell Hill and was a graduate of Commerce High School. The family spent summers in their cottage on Patches Pond in Worcester. She loved music, opera, and singing in the church choir. Eva was known for the best apple pies ever, being the life of the party, and being the best singer at any event. She enjoyed her family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their support of them and their loving care of Eva.

Services will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street on Thursday, May 1. A calling hour will be held at 11 am followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. After cremation, burial will be in Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rose Monahan Hospice Home, VNACare Network, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608-1280.
