Mr. Diego "Danny" Giacalone, age 86, died Friday April 25, 2014, in North Reading at the Meadowview Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Born in Italy, Danny was the devoted son of the late Pasqualina (Rallo) & Marco Giacalone.
Danny was a commercial fisherman, out of Boston, for over 50 years. A North Reading resident since 2006, Danny was formerly of Medford for over 50 years. Danny enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife Columbia. They traveled to Italy and Florida and enjoyed an occasional cruise. At home, Danny spent time gardening around the house. Danny loved spending time with his family, especially his loving grandchildren and his great grandson, Jackson.
Danny was the beloved husband of Columbia (Luongo) Giacalone. Devoted father of Elaine Winsor and her husband Stephen of Stoneham, Karen Bowman and her husband Joseph of Ohio, Denise DeLeo of Reading, and Diane Phillips of North Reading. Loving grandfather of Stephen and Mark Winsor, Lisa Sorrentino, Joseph and Christopher Bowman, Cristina and Julianne DeLeo, Nicholas and Michael Phillips. Loving great grandfather of Jackson Winsor. Brother of Rose Parisi of Revere, Anna Moschella of Ipswich the late Joseph and Angelo Giacalone. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. MEDFORD, Tuesday April 29th at 9:30 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 3 thru 8pm. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
