Leonora (Barrows) Roderick, 87, of New Bedford died April 25, 2014 at New Bedford Health Care Center after a long illness surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Robert Roderick.
Born in Falmouth, the daughter of the late Alfred "Dan" and Guilemena "Mena" (Spinner) Barrows, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
Nora was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and attended The Worship Center.
She was formerly employed as a sales clerk at Cove Discount Center for many years until her retirement. Nora later volunteered as a foster grandparent with PACE Headstart.
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Marcia Barber and her husband Tony of Taunton and Patricia Roderick and Roberta Gomes both of New Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Judy Gilbert of New Bedford; a brother, Jimmy Hero of New Bedford; a sister, Winnie Robinson of New York; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, including her beloved Brandon Roderick whom she raised. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Ronnie Gilbert, mother-in-law of the late Jake Gomes, grandmother of the late Tami Roderick and the sister of the late Kenneth Barrows.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, April 30th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 29th from 4-8 PM.
