Obituary

CHICOPEE – Dorothy (Mayer) Roy, 88, a longtime resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on April 19, 1926, a beloved daughter of the late Albert H. and Blanche L. (Lemire) Mayer. She was raised in Holyoke and moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1952. She was last employed at the former Pratt & Austin Company in Holyoke and retired in 1988. Dorothy was a quiet woman who was a wonderful homemaker to her family. She showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Paul E. Roy who was Called Home on June 24, 2000. They were married on June 22, 1946 at the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke and were blessed with 54 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving daughter and son-in-law, Susan D. Brucia and her husband, Richard Brucia, of Chicopee; her cherished grandson, Darren M. Landry and his wife, Jaime, of Chicopee; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kaylee, Kelsie and Kenzie Landry; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Roy and Mayer families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers, Norman A. Mayer who was Killed in Action in World War II at Guadalcanal, and Bernard W. Mayer. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday morning, May 1, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimers Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
