Obituary

Frances M. (Orifice) Giordano, 89, of Franklin formerly of Medway, died April 22 in Newton Wellesley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas Giordano who died in 1980.
Born in Waltham, June 28, 1924, the daughter of the late Antonio and Sarah (Allia) Orifice, Mrs. Giordano was raised in Waltham and moved to Medway where she lived from 1966 until moving to Franklin in 1984.
Mrs. Giordano had been the secretary for the Principal of Medway High School for many years until retiring in 1983.
She was the former President of the Sons of Italy/ Regina Margherita Di Savoia of Waltham.
She had been one of the founding members of the Medway Boosters Club. Mrs. Giordano had also been active in the Franklin Food Pantry and St Vincent DePaul Society.
Frances was an avid reader who seamlessly moved into the kindle age of reading.
She loved to go the Franklin Senior Center and was known in her family as the “Scrabble Queen”.
She is survived by her children, Thomas P. Giordano and his wife Deborah of Melrose, Bill Giordano and his wife Jean of Franklin and Diane Simpson and her husband Bob of Franklin.
The matriarch of the family, she is also survived by her younger siblings, Sal Orifice of Wakefield, Margaret Venuti of Wakefield, Lena Lamore of Hudson, Virginia Fanara of Waltham, and Marion Anthony of Gloucester. She was the sister of the late Santo Orifice, Rose Violette, Luigi Orifice, Sebastian Orifice, Adeline Compardy, Philip Orifice and Jeannette McIssac.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa, Thomas Jr., Bill Jr., Melissa, Laura, Elizabeth, and Whitney.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, April 28 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street, Medway at 9:00 followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 10:00. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4-8.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the St Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Mary’s Church, Church Square, Franklin, MA 02038.
