Obituary

WAREHAM - Mary Adelaide (Andersen) Drivenes, 87, died at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation-Forestview in Wareham on Saturday, April 19, 2014 after an extended illness.
A long-time resident of Dartmouth, MA, Mary was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Ruth (Olsen) Andersen and Adolph Andersen. She was preceded in death by her husband Captain Lars Drivenes, a member of the New Bedford fishing fleet for many years. She is survived by her sisters Emily Albertson and Karen Ragnaldsen, and nieces and nephews in the Fall River/Dartmouth/Westport area and in Norway.
Mary was known to many for her beautiful voice. She sang professionally as Mary Andersen in the 1950’s, recorded for RCA Victor in 1953 in the United States and for the recording company, Musica in Norway. Her ’78 recordings include “Somewhere over the Rainbow”, and “ Band of Gold” and “En Litten Glyden Ring” sung in Norwegian. Locally she sang at the Cathay Temple on weekends and at special events at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairhaven, MA
Mary maintained her sense of humor and good spirit to the end. May she rest in peace.
