Agnes L. Dowdy, 89, of Irwin County, Georgia died Monday, April 21, 2014, at Heritage Health Care of Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Pinetta Baptist Church in Irwin County, with the Rev. Jay Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Dowdy was born December 7, 1924 in Irwin County to the late George Alexander and Gencie Elizabeth Bowman Vinson. She was a homemaker and lived in the community all of her life. She was a dedicated wife and mother, caring for her disabled daughter for many years. She loved the Lord with all she had. Her compassion for others was evident in the way she lived her daily life. She enjoyed God’s nature and cherished her time spent outdoors in her yard, planting flowers and watching birds. Mrs. Dowdy accepted Christ at Mystic Baptist Church and was a member of Pinetta Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son: E. B. Dowdy, Jr. & Diane of Fitzgerald, four daughters: Linda Gaines & David of Fitzgerald, Beth Yarbrough of Fitzgerald, Teresa Brewer & Larry of Irwinville and Wanda Hynko & Mark of Statesboro; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: E. B. Dowdy, Sr., a daughter: Sarah Marcella Dowdy, son-in-law: Barry Yarbrough; a great-grandson: Chandler Alexander; five brothers and one sister
