Robert J. Devoe, 83 of Danvers and formerly of Salem, died his home, Emeritus Assisted Livning on Monday, April 21, 2014, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Lorraine R. (Caron) Devoe with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late George W. and Bernadette I. (Fournier) Devoe. As a young man, Bob first worked for the former Pequot Mills of Salem. With the closing of the mills, he began working for A.C. Lawrence Leathers in Peabody and remained for nearly 20 years while working at his own Devoe’s Upholstery Shop for 40 years. He retired 27 years ago.
Bob was a hard working man who was devoted to his family. He was a 50 year member of the Salem/Beverly B.P.O.E. 1309, and was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish and St. James Parish of Salem.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, he is survived by 4 daughters, Vivian M. Abate and her husband Alfred of Methuen, Catherine I. Doyon and her husband Bertrand of Hooksett, NH, Nancy J. Libby and her husband William of Danvers, Michelle L. Ricci and her husband Tom of Groveland, 4 sons, Robert J. Devoe, Jr. and his wife Lois of Salem, Stephen R. Devoe of Salem, Paul R. Devoe and his wife Cynthia of Wakefield, and Michael R. Devoe and his wife Robin of Salem, NH. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Jacqueline Demeule and brothers, Roger & Albert Devoe.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Salem.
