Obituary

Robert Alan Rose, 67, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 18, 2014.
Robert was born June 20, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Rosine (Parascandolo) and husband, Sidney Rose. He spent his early childhood on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn before relocating with his family to Attleboro, Massachusetts. He spent his high school years attending Somerset High School and Attleboro High School where he developed his love of track and field and basketball. Robert received a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering Degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth) and a Masters of Industrial Engineering Degree from the University of New Haven.

He moved to Southeastern Connecticut when he joined the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, USN, in Groton. While working there, he met his wife of 36 years, Donna J. Ryan. They married on February 19, 1978. In 1987, Robert opened his own consulting business, Rose Associates, and joined the University of New Haven faculty as an Adjunct Professor. He was a long standing member of the American Society of Quality Control (ASQC).

Robert loved the Mystic area and considered himself a lifelong resident. He loved basketball, especially college ball, and was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies and Boston Celtics. He enjoyed the opportunity to pass on his love of math, technology and science to young people when he became a coach for the Old Mystic Lego League. He was always available to crew or better still, supervise, his friends on their boats. Robert loved animals and had 4 pawed and feathered companions throughout his entire life, none more beloved than Ashes, Beaux, Chi and Alfie. His biggest pleasure was shopping at yard sales, dent & scratch shops, supply outlet stores and salvaged material shops for items for his current or future projects, items always acquired as “A good buy.”

Among his many qualities he was a beloved husband, loving brother, brother-in-law and especially close with his cousins and second cousins. Robert is survived by his wife, Donna Ryan-Rose, by his sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ed Goulart, his cousins, Valeria Attara, Linda Acri, Larry Nastro and John Nastro, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia Ryan and Eddie Ryan, his many friends and all those whose lives he touched and within whose memories he lives on.

Robert's family will greet relatives and friends today from 2 to 4pm and from 6 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10am at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic with burial following in St. Patrick Cemetery, River Road, Old Mystic.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to your favorite charity, The Old Mystic Lego League C/O the Old Mystic General Store 06372, the Stonington Animal Control Facility, or a local dog rescue organization.
