Maria de Lourdes Leal of Taunton passed away peacefully Wednesday April 16th, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was 76. Born December 10, 1937 in Lajes, Pico, Azores. She immigrated to Taunton in 1965. She was the devoted wife of the late Fernando S. Leal, the beloved daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa (Garcia) Leal. Loving mother of Joe Leal and his wife Ann Marie, Maria Ferreira and her late husband Robert, Fatima Amaral and her husband Mario, Fernando Leal and his late fiancé Shelia Baptiste, and Paul Leal and his wife Elizabeth, all of Taunton. The devoted grandmother to Heidi and Nicholas Amaral, Rick Ferreira and his wife Shana, Samantha, Katelyn, Emily Leal, Arianna and Brevan Walker, Eva and Owen Leal. Great grandmother to Dylan and Greta Ferreira. Sister of the late Manuel, Jose, and Leonel. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Maria enjoyed cooking, listening to music, crocheting, gardening, and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She was employed by F.B. Rogers and the Raynham-Taunton Greyhound Park.
Visiting hours will be in the Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. (Off Rte.140) Taunton on Monday, April 21st 5-8 PM. Funeral Mass Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church, Taunton at 11 AM.
