Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Anthony “Tony” Frontiero, Jr., 82, died Friday evening, April 11, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following an extended illness. He was the husband of Marjorie A. (Brennan) Frontiero.
Born in Gloucester on May 2, 1931, he was the son of the late Anthony and Philomena (Pallazola) Frontiera.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served as a member of the Seabees and was honorably discharged in September of 1955.
In his younger years, Tony worked on the waterfront and fished with his father aboard the Santa Claus. He worked in numerous positions in the building industry. He was last employed by Edgerton, Germeshausen, and Grier, Inc. in Salem for many years. Following retirement, he enjoyed working in his garden and growing vegetables. He also loved to cook and bake. He was well-known for his delicious casata cakes.
Tony was a man of many talents. He loved art and woodcarving and was very proud of the sign he carved for the Cape Ann Savings Bank on Rogers Street. He also loved to play the piano and sing Italian music. His recent favorite pastime was sitting under the tree in St Peter’s Square with his compares.
In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, he is survived by two sons, Anthony J. Frontiero, and Robert P. Frontiero; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen A. and Steven Hall; six grandchildren Tony Joshua Frontiero, Holly Ann, wife of Jamie Mayer, Nicholas Thomas Frontiero, Thomas Barrett Frontiero, Evan William Hall and Iris Catherine Hall; and one great-grandson, Thayil Mayer; two sisters, Antoinette Pallazola, Sally, wife of Eugene Killey and one brother, Joseph "Gap" husband of Judy Frontiera; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, especially his godson, Louis Catalini, and close friends, whom he adored. He was also predeceased by his son, Thomas W. Frontiero; five sisters, Annie Amero, Florence and her husband, Elliott Collins, Madeline and her husband Angus Hinckley, Rose P. and her husband William Catalini, Mary-Jo Frontiera; three sisters-in-law, Barbara and her husband Gerard Vogel, Marion Silva Leaf, and Nancy Frontiera; and brothers-in-law, Dominic Pallazola, and Robert Brennan.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 - 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
