Obituary

New Bedford – Nicholas Konstantakos, 71, of New Bedford died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Diana L. (Paull) Konstantakos.

He was born in New Bedford, son of the late Peter and Mary (Panagiotakos) Konstantakos, and was a lifelong resident of the city. A 1954 graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, he was voted All Bristol County in Football for his school in 1952 and was inducted into the New Bedford Vocational High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Prior to his retirement in 1999, he was an industrial arts teacher at New Bedford High School for 29 years. He was a United States Army veteran who served in Japan during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, New Bedford.

Mr. Konstantakos was a member of the National Educators Association and the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement Board. He loved spending time with his family. He was an avid craftsman who built his own home and enjoyed making furniture for his family.

Including his wife he is survived by: 2 sons: Peter N. Konstantakos and his wife Kristine of Gulfport, FL and George N. Konstantakos and his wife Jennifer of Bow, NH; 2 brothers: George Konstantakos of New Bedford and Demetrious Konstantakos of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren: Nicholas P. Konstantakos and Sage I. Konstantakos; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Michael Konstantakos, Gregory Konstantakos, Helen Pappas and Cleopatra Perperas.

Calling hours will be Thursday 4 – 7 P.M. at the KIRBY FUNERAL HOME, 61 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 5, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 87 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, with 1-hour visitation from 9 – 10 A.M. prior to mass at the church.

Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, c/o New Building Fund, 87 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02746.
