Obituary

DUDLEY – Edward M.”Edziu” Antos, 89, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Saint Vincent Hospital with his family at his side. His wife of 48 years, Jean A. (Coonan) Antos, died in 2001.
He leaves his beloved daughter, Jayne H. Antos of Dudley, with whom he lived; 3 sisters, Mildred Borowski of Holden, Rose Scheffler of Webster and Stella Roukat of Dudley; nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, and a great-grandnephew.. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Joseph, John, Stanley and Jacob Antos and by 2 sisters, Mary Moroz and Sophie Mrzyglod.
He was born in Webster and raised in Dudley, one of the 10 children of John and Josephine (Pendrak) Antos.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Antos worked at American Woolen Mills and at various shoe shops including Webster Shoe. He delivered milk for Deary Brothers. He also worked at Thom McCann in Auburn and at American Steel & Wire in Ware. He retired in 1989 after being a machine operator for 10 years at the American Optical Company in Southbridge. In his spare time, he built houses with John Kwiecinski and also was a machine operator at Marsh Grinding, both in Dudley.
He was a member of St. Andrew Bobola Church. He was a 52 year member of the 200 Sportsmen’s Club #114 in Webster. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a baseball enthusiast at all levels, but he enjoyed watching the Red Sox the most. A jack of all trades, he was a master of several. He read the daily newspaper from front to back and remembered all of it. He was known for his story telling. He looked forward to visits from his nieces and nephews and their families as well as friends in the neighborhood.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 16, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Roch’s Cemetery, Oxford. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 15, in the funeral home.
