BEVERLY: Dorothy G. (MacCarthy) Harrington, 95, died Friday, April 11, 2014 in the Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Harrington who died in 1978.
Born in Beverly on November 29, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Bartlett and Evelyn (Arthur) MacCarthy. She was a lifelong resident of Beverly and a graduate of Beverly High School.
Dorothy once worked as a waitress and sales clerk at the former Almy’s Department Store and as a waitress at the former Woolworth’s Department Store for several years. She was an avid bingo player and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Charlotte (Andrews) Harrington of Beverly; her daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and David Hazzard of Beverly; four grandchildren, Timothy Harrington of Beverly, Kristin Simone and her husband, William of Atkinson, NH, David Hazzard, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Brentwood, NH and Dana Hazzard of Tamarac, FL; five great-grandchildren, Emily Harrington, Abby Simone, Will Simone, Carissa Reynolds and Kayla Richardson; a sister, Roslyn Wildes and her husband, Ted; sister-in-law, Margery MacCarthy and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara DiRubio and three brothers, Donald, Earle “Fran” and Bartlett MacCarthy.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street., Beverly at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in North Beverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
