Obituary

BEVERLY: Donald E. Powers, 80, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at his home at Colonial Gardens surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Lawton) Powers with whom he shared fifty-seven years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on August 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Everett A. Powers, Sr. and Viola (Munroe) Powers. He had resided in Gloucester for many years before moving to Beverly in 1961. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in December 1955.
Don was employed as a lineman and crew leader for Massachusetts Electric Company for forty-one years before his retirement in 1997. He was a member of The Tyrian, Acacia & Ashler Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Gloucester and the A.P. Gardner Post #194, American Legion of Hamilton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda M. and Thomas Goyette of Beverly and Susan A. and John Gillis of Seabrook, NH; a son, Donald E. Powers, Jr. of Niota, TN; five grandchildren, Jody Rehrauer and her husband, Earl of Amesbury, Kimberly Fuller and her husband, Daniel of South Berwick, ME, Kelly Crawford and her husband, Derek of Dover, NH, Lauren Martin and her husband, Anthony of Amesbury, NH and Kirsten Goyette of Beverly; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; He was also predeceased by his sister, Priscilla Roberts and a brother, Everett A. Powers, Jr.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot St., Beverly from 4 – 8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. His funeral service will be privately held in the Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
