Obituary

ANNISQUAM – Julia K. (Shermard) Robinson, 94, died early Thursday morning, April 10, 2014 following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Daniel A. Robinson, who died in August of 2007. They had shared sixty-three years of marriage and had resided in the home they built from a former boat house.
Born in Gloucester on May 16, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Rose (Dawzyrick) Shermard. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of St. Ann’s High School.
Along with her husband, she owned and operated Robinson Marina on Lobster Cove, where they also sold lobsters and clams. They were motorcycle enthusiasts and rode with the Retreads into their 70’s. Julia loved the outdoors, and enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling from their farm house in Sweden, Maine.
She was an early member of the Annisquam Sewing Circle and Bandage Group. She also loved to knit and bake, was an animal lover, and an avid gardener, for which she won many awards.
Her family was her greatest treasure and she never missed an opportunity to be present at significant events in her grandchildren’s lives. She had a special relationship with her great-grandson and enjoyed sharing meals and spending time with him. He always brightened her day. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Gail L. Robinson-Neff, wife of Richard M. Neff; three grandchildren, Sasha, Torrie and Tucker Robinson-Neff; her great-grandson, Logan Daniel Robinson-Neff, who was the light of her life; her sister, Betty Barry and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Anne Cameron, Virginia “Ginny” Paynotta and Eleanor Hendrickson.
Prayers of committal were held privately in the Mount Adnah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
