FAIRHAVEN — A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 for the late Millicent D. Allen in the First Congregational Church in Fairhaven at 1 P.M. followed by a reception in Babbitt Hall. She died March 7th at the age of 88 years.
Born in Fairhaven, she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Florence W. (Nickerson) Allen, was a graduate of Fairhaven High School Class of 1943 and attended the University of New Hampshire.
Millicent worked as a dietician at Wellesley College from 1954-1968, was a substitute teacher for the N.B. School Department, worked for the YWCA of SEMass and was employed in the dietary department at St. Luke's Hospital. She also spent many summers as a dietician at Camp O-AT-KA on Sebago Lake in Maine.
Proud of Fairhaven and its history, she supported town activities, and was a member of the Fairhaven Improvement Assn., the Colonial Club, the Historical Society, her church and Women's Fellowship where she served as secretary. Millicent was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a volunteer for the YWCA of SEM, and researched her family genealogy, very proud of her family heritage.
She was also a member of the Rainbow Majority Club and received the 50 year Bible from her church in 2011.
Her survivors are a nephew John C. Allen Jr., Great Nieces and Nephews John C. Allen III, Julie Allen Ruff, Jeffrey D. Allen, and Janet Allen Paintin; and Great Great Nieces and Nephews John C. Allen IV, Gisella Allen, Clairmont A. Ruff IV, Cailin Marie Ruff, Ashley Allen, Brittany Allen, Justin Allen, Matthew Paintin and Amanda Paintin.
It is suggested remembrances be made in Millicent's name to the First Congregational Church UCC, 34 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719 or to Camp O-AT-KA, P.O. Box 239, Sebago Lake, Maine 04029.
