Obituary

LACONIA – Ellen Mary (O’Rourke) Daub, 87, of Garfield Street, died peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a year of failing health.

She was born on February 26, 1927 in Ferns, County Wexford, Ireland, the youngest of six siblings. She came to America in 1953 on the Queen Mary and lived for many years in New York City, where she worked as an au pair on Long Island. Ellen was married to Robert L. Daub in 1957 and moved to Laconia in 1965 with their two children. Ellen worked for over 20 years at the Margate Resort as the head of housekeeping. She then worked at Lakes Region General Hospital for almost 20 more years, retiring in 2012 at the age of 84. She was well known for her love of gardening, baking and of course the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by one son, Robert Francis Daub of Fort Walton Beach, FL and one daughter, Susan Alice (Daub) Ayers of Laconia, one grandson, John Liam Ayers of Laconia, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in England. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her six siblings and one grandson, Luke Lawrence O’Rourke in 1990.

Sue and John Liam would like to thank all the staff of LRGH for their wonderful care over the past year and a special thanks to all the doctors and staff at the Vascular Office, especially Dr. Sam.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be private.
