Obituary

CHICOPEE – Leon C. Lafleur, Jr., 84, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Nassau Street in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on September 17, 1929, a beloved son of the late Leon and Alphonsine (Lafleur) Lafleur. He was raised in Willimansett and attended Mount Carmel Elementary School. He later lived in the Aldenville section of Chicopee before moving to the Fairview section of the city in 1998. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served with the 514th AAA Missile Battalion and received the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars and One Overseas Bar. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and was employed for many years as a drop forger at the former Moore Drop Forge, Eastco Hand Tools and later at the Danaher Corporation, all in Springfield. Most of all, he was a family man who always provided and cared for his wife and children. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Constance M. (Moineau) Lafleur. They were married on September 6, 1954 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with nearly 60 years of happiness together. He also leaves his six devoted sons, Michael Lafleur and his wife, Barbara, of Montgomery, Gregoire Lafleur of Tucson, AZ, Martin Lafleur and his wife, Melissa, of Chicopee, Gerard Lafleur and his wife, Karen, of Granby, Leon Lafleur and his wife, Kelly, of Chicopee, and James Lafleur and his wife, Latoya, of Blandford; his ten cherished grandchildren, Neil Lafleur, Nathaniel Lafleur and his partner, Dianna Bolton, Tabbatha Corey and her husband, Nick, Nichole Lafleur and her partner, Joshua McAnaugh, Jason Lafleur, Samantha Lafleur and her partner, Lee Racine, Char-Lee Lafleur, Michael Shumway, Thomas Shumway and Cody Santee; his five cherished great grandchildren, Tanner and Liam Corey, Skylar Lafleur, Caleb McAnaugh and Destiny Shumway; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Lafleur and Moineau families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his eight dear brothers, Bernard, Marcel, Gilbert, William, Raymond, Vincent “Hank”, Albert “Bob”, and Reverend Gerard Lafleur; and his four dear sisters, Sister Leona Lafleur, Helen Perron, Gertrude Chatel and Juliette Gingras. A private Service of Committal with US Army Military Honors will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
