Joseph Francis Specht Jr., Age 78, passed away on April 8, 2014 at home peacefully. He was born on April 6, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY. His parents were the late Joseph Francis Specht Sr. and Mary M. (Pieper) Specht and his twin brother was the late Edward Peter Specht. He attended Eagleville, CT High School and continued on to graduate from Chicopee High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 at the age of 17 and served in the Korean War. During his life he lived in Eagleville, CT, Springfield, MA, Hampden, MA and Chicopee, MA. He was a communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Church. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, woodworking, construction, gold prospecting, and made custom jewelry. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Pioneer Valley Mineral Club and Chicopee Tiger Club. He started his career as an Engineer at Hamilton Standard and moved onto owning his own businesses to include J & S Heating and Plumbing and J & S Custom Homes. He retired in 2008 from the City of Holyoke as the Plumbing and Gas Inspector. He leaves his loving wife Mary Jeanne Annette Specht (Desjardins) of Chicopee, whom he married on Nov. 8, 1958. He leaves his four sons, Joseph R. Specht and his wife Nila, Steven J. Specht and his wife Joanne, Brian E. Specht and his wife Christina, and Ryan S. Specht. He also leaves his 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Fri., April 11, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. in Mary Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. He will be laid to rest privately on his family mountain in Vermont.
