Betty Jane Daly passed away March 30, 2014 at her home in Ventura.
Betty was born in Santa Barbara, CA on December 3, 1920, the only child of Bessie and Alfred G. Brigham of Saticoy. When Betty was 9 months old, the family returned to Ventura County, settling in Ventura to establish Brigham's, a fine men's clothing store.
Betty graduated from St. Catherine's Academy in 1939 and then attended Mills College in Oakland.
In 1942 she married Captain Austin P. Byrne U.S.A.F. of Woodhaven, N.Y. Their son Patrick was born a year later. Eight short months later, August 6, 1944, Captain Byrne was killed in action when his plane was shot down over Hamburg, Germany during World War II.
In 1949 she married Dr. J. Austin Daly, family physician and later Medical Director of Ventura County Hospital. They had two daughters, Eileen and Kathleen and she spent her life raising their three children while her husband practiced medicine in Ventura.
Betty continued the lifelong friendships she had established since childhood and remained socially active with many friends she had met during the years. She especially enjoyed entertaining, social events, bridge and book clubs and family get-togethers.
A few years after our father's death she was introduced by mutual friends to Mr. Irv Wilde of Santa Paula. They had 18 years of great fun and companionship. Included in that relationship were Irv's six grown children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom became a part of Betty's life.
Kind, compassionate, forgiving, positive, and beautiful inside and out would be some of the words to describe our Mother. After experiencing many of life's challenges, she continued to possess these rare and special qualities, so admired by her family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death be her husbands Captain Austin P. Byrne, Dr. J. Austin Daly, and companion, Mr. George Irv Wilde. She is survived by son Patrick Byrne (Carol) of Lake Elsinore, daughters Eileen Long (Paul) of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Kathleen Rogers (Paul) of Ojai, CA; grandsons, Phillip Byrne, Paul Byrne (Teresa), Zachary Long (Meike), Brendan Long (Jessica), and one great grandson, Paul Byrne Jr.
The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers Perla Alido and Ruth Stumpf. We would also like to thank Suzanne Henthorn R.N. of Livingston Memorial Hospice.
A Memorial Reception will he held Thursday April 10 2014 from 1 - 3PM at the Wedgewood Center 5880 Olivas Park Drive, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE 757 E. Main Street Ventura.
