Obituary

Tierney, Janice Arlene of South Natick, MA (formerly of Dover, MA and Naples, FL) beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and all around beautiful friend to so many...passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2014, with her husband and children by her side. Jan fought her blood cancer battle valiantly and privately for over a decade, and always had a smiling face for anyone suffering the same struggle. Born in Rock Island, IL, she grew up with loving parents, Doris and Frank Burt, sister Phyllis and brother Ken. She completes her family’s journey now. Jan leaves her much loved husband of 62 years, Thomas, her daughter, Liz Tierney Scallon (with son-in law Mike Scallon) and son, Thomas F. Tierney (with daughter-in-law Lisa). Her grandchildren were a source of great pride-Rachel, Jack and Brianna meant the world to Jan, as did her many relations, including a cousin, Dale Lyndsley from Bakersfield, CA and 13 nieces and nephews.

A beautiful life lived to the fullest. Jan loved taking care of her family, cooking, entertaining, and traveling. She was a voracious reader and a very active golfer at Wellesley CC and Collier’s Reserve and RP, in Naples. Jan’s life was filled with her love for God and her church. So as God’s loving hands take her now, we celebrate everything about this truly remarkable and beautiful woman. We will carry Jan in our hearts forever. A celebratory mass will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley. Relatives and friends kindly invited. A reception at the Wellesley CC will immediately follow services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis House, 39 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116 or the National Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org for online donations).
