HARDEN - William Thomas "Tom" Harden, Sr., of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
Mr. Harden was born August 9, 1934 in Folkston, GA and moved to Fernandina Beach 55 years ago. He retired from Container Corp. with 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Past memberships include: Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary, Nassau County Water Patrol, Kraft Athletic Club and various computer clubs. Mr. Harden loved computers, reading and NASCAR. He was a loving husband and devoted father.
He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Natalie Harden and Lynae Harden; his parents, Robert Herman Harden, Sr. and Leatha Augusta Harden; a brother, Robert Herman Harden, Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret Roddenberry, Laverne Hickox and one half sister, Mary Ruth Lee.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ardath Harden of Fernandina Beach, FL; five sons, Tony Harden (Karen) of Zephyrhills, FL, Mitchell Harden (Bonnie) of Lake Wales, FL, Tommy Harden of Fernandina Beach, FL, Lamar Harden (Janet) of Brunswick, GA and Darryl Harden (Brenda) of Fernandina Beach, FL; a daughter, Penny Fender (Jimmie) of Fernandina Beach; five grandchildren, Carla Harden, Jeremy Davis, Justen Harden, Mandi Bultman and Caty Stanford, six step grandchildren; Angela Pruitt, Tammy Pruitt, Kimberly Bedwell, Malisa Rembowski, Kaydi Newnam, Bryant Fender; six great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Knox officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
