Obituary

George C. Gobeil, 67 of Westport died at home in the arms of his family on March 31, 2014.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Edgar L. Gobeil and Laura J. (Moraux) Gobeil, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Westport.
He was a graduate from GNBVT and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1966-67. George was an equipment mechanic most of his life and later became a firefighter with the New Bedford Fire Department until he retired.
He enjoyed spending time on “The Compound” (his yard), spending time with his grandchildren and going to motorcycle rallies & car shows with his wife and friends.
Survivors include his wife Judy of 42 years; a daughter, Derica; a son, Jarid and his wife Jenn; his grandchildren, Cole, Shae, Dean and Quinn; his sisters, Jean Bonin, Laura Brook and her husband Ted; a brother, Roland and his wife Jean; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Paul Gobeil.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 7th at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, April 6th from 3-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW of Freetown Post 6643, In Memory of George, care of Dan LeBlanc, 148 County Rd, E. Freetown, MA 02717.
