Obituary

CHICOPEE – Alice R. (Lapointe) Lafleur, 92, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home on Lafayette Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on January 21, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Aurore (Jubinville) Lapointe. She was raised and schooled in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. Her work career spanned many years at the former National Blank Book Company in Holyoke. She was last employed as a head seamstress at Sentry Cleaners in Chicopee. Most of all, she was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker to her family. During her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She made blankets for the Neonatal Unit at Baystate Medical Center and each of her grandchildren have been the benefactors of her wonderful afghans, scarves and mittens. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett, where she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. She was currently a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Paul E. Lafleur, Sr., who was Called Home on January 10, 2003. They were married on June 14, 1941 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving infant son, Donald Lafleur, who was Called Home in 1951; her cherished grandson, Wayne D. Chevalier, who was Called Home on February 23, 1986; and her dear brothers, Roger and Roland Lapointe. She leaves her six loving children, Paul E. Lafleur, Jr. and his wife, Louise, of Belchertown, Annette C. Chevalier and her husband, Raymond, of Chicopee, Susan M. Lepage and her fiancé, Ed Moynihan, of Palmer, Darlene M. Lacasse of Chicopee with whom she lived, Janet G. Durand and her husband, Robert, of Chicopee, and Norman J. Guay and his wife, Melissa, of Florida; her 15 cherished grandchildren; her 24 cherished great grandchildren, her three cherished great-great grandchildren; her dear sister, Yvonne Altizer and her husband, Earle, of Florida; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Lafleur and Lapointe families. Alice will be watching from the Heavenly Home above for the upcoming birth of her great grandson, Trevor. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, April 5, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
