Calvin Poole, 67, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at his residence in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 4 P. M., Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Ocilla Church of God with the Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating. Jack Paulk & Allison Poole will deliver the eulogies. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home in Fitzgerald. One of Calvin’s last requests was for his friends and family to attend his funeral in their camo or purple & gold.
Mr. Poole was born January 3, 1947, in Irwin County to the late Alvin Horace and Alice Gertrude Scarbrough Poole. He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1966 and lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Poole served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of Souvenir Mobile Homes, Rainbow Irrigation, Chaney Bush and retired from Gilman Building Products. Mr. Poole was an avid hunter, fisherman and also enjoyed coaching youth sports for many years. He umpired for 26 years in the Fitzgerald Umpire Association. Mr. Poole was a member of Ocilla Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years: Linda Smith Poole of Fitzgerald; children: Kevin Michael Poole and his mother Barbara Hissong, both of New Port Richey, Florida; Sonya Marie Poole Chambliss & Cason of Fitzgerald; Calvin Dewayne “Drip” Poole & Allison of Ocilla; daughter-in-law: Heather Fields & Sammy of Ocilla; grandchildren: Cole Chambliss of Florida, Turner & Brayden Chambliss of Fitzgerald, Zoe Poole, Rachael Poole, Tripp Poole, Jett Poole, Avelea Poole and Seth Fields all of Ocilla; brothers: John Howard Poole & Debbie of Fitzgerald and Jerry Poole & Erica of Pearson and many nieces and nephews also survive.
