Obituary

Manuel V. "Sid" Rozario, 81, of New Bedford died March 28, 2014 at Hallmark Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born in Rochester, the son of the late Vincent and Mary C. (Miranda) Rozario, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Rozario was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and was a former member of the church choir.
He was formerly employed as a police officer with the New Bedford Police Department for many years until retirement.
Mr. Rozario served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Union Lodge #4 F. & A.M., the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association and a former member of the New Bedford Philharmonic Choir, the International Longshoremen's Association and the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club.
Mr. Rozario enjoyed keeping the Cape Verdean tradition "Canta Res" alive by singing in the new year. He also enjoyed spending time on the water with fishing, swimming and boating.
Survivors include 5 sisters, Joan Grace of Dartmouth and Mary "Lourdy" Houtman and her husband Albert of New Bedford, Rosa Rozario, Maria Lopes and Maria Livravaante, all of Rhode Island; his close friends, Marcelino "Sonny" Almeida and Butch Silva, both of New Bedford; many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Anna Cardoza, Julia Livramento and Jose Almeida.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Wednesday, April 2nd at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, April 1st from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 47 S. 6th St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
