Obituary

Stephen John Grattan, 58, passed away at UMass-Memorial Hospital CCU, from acute pneumonia, on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, surrounded by his devoted and loving brother and sisters.

Stephen was born in Worcester, MA on June 25, 1955, the beloved youngest child of the late Dr. William J. and Winifred M. (Lennon) Grattan, Jr. He attended St. John’s Prep in Shrewsbury and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He worked at McNally Plumbing Supply and had his own painting company for a number of years.

Steve loved his family and home and enjoyed landscaping and gardening. Although a homebody at heart, Steve, as a teenager, thoroughly enjoyed family trips to Canada, Hawaii, England and France. He was an avid writer and kept a daily journal for many years. Steve had an innate love of animals and as a boy had a variety of pets, including a monkey; he rescued an untold number of cats and dogs throughout his life as well.

Mr. Grattan is survived by his former wife, Sharon (Foss) Grattan; his son, Christopher Grattan and daughter, Stephanie (Grattan) Januelwicz; his grandchildren, Brady and Brianna Grattan and Maddox and Liam Januelwicz; his brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Terri (Doyle) Grattan III, of Westborough; his sisters, Cynthia D. Grattan of Springfield, MA and Sue E. Grattan-Richardson of Westborough, MA. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends, all of whom deeply and sadly miss him,

Relatives and friends are invited to attend, A Celebration of Life Mass, honoring Mr. Grattan, which will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA, on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. Burial in the family plot at St. John’s Cemetery will be private and at a later date.
