Candia– Evelyn (DeFina) Ellis, 93, died March 25, 2014 at her home following a brief illness.
She was born in Medford, MA on June12, 1920 the daughter of Vincent G. and Antoinette G.(Guerriera) DeFina. She has been a long time resident of this community.
In her life she participated in the Green Thumb Program working in the bookstore at White Pines College, in Chester, NH and in the library at Moore School in Candia. She has been a longtime member of the Candia knitting group as well as the Extension group in Candia. In addition to extensive socializing throughout her life, she enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and a variety of other crafts. She was a voracious reader and scrabble player.
She was an avid sports fan and, in later life, was delighted when her grandsons called to give her score updates during the UNH Hockey games that were not televised. She attended as many sporting and cheerleading events as she could as she watched her grandchildren and, later, their children participate. She was their greatest fan.
Her life was filled with a loving, caring relationship with her family. She was knows as “Gram” by many including friends of her grandchildren who were always part of her family. She leaves behind memories that will never fade for anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was predeceased by her husband of 17 years Paul Ellis and her first husband of 16 years Phillip B. Wiggin and by her five older siblings.
She is survived by a son P. Michael Wiggin and his wife Ludia of Clearwater, FL and a daughter, Laura Desrochers and her husband Robert of Candia, 4 grandsons, their wives, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial reception will be Sunday April 6, 2014 from 2 to 4 PM at the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St., Manchester, NH. A prayer service will be at 3:30 PM during calling hours.
