Obituary

Colin B. Weir, Jr., 84, of Franklin, died peacefully Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Katherine R. (McCardle) Weir for 54 years.

Born in Buffalo, New York on October 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Colin B. and Marie (Stubbs) Weir. Mr. Weir was raised in Buffalo and resided there until moving to Franklin in 1973.

He was a graduate of the University of Buffalo and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Weir proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1954.

Retiring in 1991, Mr. Weir worked at General Dynamics for 34 years and was awarded three U.S. patents for contributions to scientific and electronic progress.

He was a very active member of the Franklin Federated Church and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Buffalo.

Mr. Weir was an accomplished woodworker, loved history, clocks and aviation and was an avid reader. He also loved softball and had played on teams associated with the Masonic Lodge, the Lutheran Church and Sylvania.

Besides his wife, he is survived by; his son, David S. Weir and his wife Cindy of Blackstone, two granddaughters; Alicia and Erica Weir, his brother Lawrence Weir and his wife Elizabeth of Rochester, New York and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service on Saturday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Franklin Federated Church, 171 Main Street in Franklin. Burial will follow at Union Street Cemetery in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Franklin Federated Church Memorial Fund, 171 Main St., Franklin, MA 02038.
