Obituary

TEWKSBURY: George A. Norton, Jr., age 82, a resident of Tewksbury for 48 years, died Friday, October 29, 2004 at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell.

He was the husband of the late Anna E. “Betty” (Buckley) Norton, who died May 22, 2004.

Born in Boston on January 17, 1922, he was the son of the late George A. and Frances (Rogers) Norton.

Mr. Norton was raised in Medford and attended Medford schools.

He moved to Tewksbury in 1956 and previously attended St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington.

Mr. Norton served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He participated in the campaigns at Papua, New Guinea and the Philippines. Mr. Norton was awarded several decorations including the Good Conduct Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from active duty on July 29, 1945 having earned the rank of TEC 5.

Prior to his retirment in 1984, he worked as a baker for the Continental Baking Company of Framingham for over 30 years.

Mr. Norton was a member of the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164.

He enjoyed marching with the Tewksbury V.F.W. in Tewksbury’s annual Memorial Day Parade, bowling and watching baseball and hockey.

He is survived by 1 daughter; Patricia A. Nims and her husband Scott of Lowell; 3 sons; Daniel R. Norton and his wife Doreen of Kingwood, TX, George A. Norton, III and his wife Catherine of Tewksbury and Richard F. Norton and his wife Virginia of Torrance, CA; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Norton was the brother of the late Virginia Norton, Barbara Craig, Muriel Cobett and Richard Norton.

Calling hours Tuesday 3-7 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Prayer service will be offered at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation at Linwood Crematory, Haverhill.
