Obituary


Halifax - Isabel (Robertson) Gassett, 89 died Sunday March 23 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter H. Gassett.

Born in Lowell and raised in Dorchester she was the daughter of the late George and Christiana (Thompson) Robertson and a graduate of Girls High School of Boston, Class of 1941.

During WWII Isabel had been a volunteer for the Red Cross, and had worked as a nurse’s aide at the NE Hospital for Women & Children and the Evangeline Boath Salvation Army Hospital both of Boston. She had also served as a U.S.O. Hostess at South Station in Boston.

In 1951 she had been employed for ten years by the Traveler’s Insurance Company of Boston. She later worked for over 30 years as a medical secretary for the late Dr. Edward Jacobs and the late Dr. Edward Baker, Jr. and retiring from Drs. Marcello, Cogliano and Ambrosino. After her retirement in 1990 she had been a respected volunteer for over 10 years at the Brockton Hospital.

She is survived by her children Linda Lawson and her late husband Thomas of Plympton, Laurel MacKinnon and her husband Al of Plymouth, William Gassett and his wife Janet of East Bridgewater and Walter Gassett of Ft. Myers, FL, her sisters Christine Derby and Margaret Pearson, her grandchildren Britt, Julie, Jonathan, Daniel, Michelle, Michael, Logan, Alison and Andrew, and her great grandchildren Jacob, Avery, Drew and Charlotte as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Georgina Lonsdale, Helen O’Neill, Mary Lavosseur and John, George and Thomas Robertson.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday March 29 from 2-5 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Her funeral service will be held Sunday March 30 at 1 PM in the Halifax Congregational Church, 503 Plymouth Street, Halifax. Burial will take place Monday March 31 at 1 PM in the MA VA Cemetery, Bourne.
