Carmela DeBonis Fernandez passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital. She has lived at Atria Crossroads since moving to Connecticut from Center Moriches, NY in 2009, to live near her niece Nancy Souza and her husband, Fred of Stonington.
She was born in 1918 to Dominic and Frances (Friedman) DeBonis. She was the widow of Edmundo Fernandez, the sister of Edna Ferguson and Viola Gratson, and the aunt of Richard Alvarez all of whom predeceased her.
She is survived by nieces Frances Kosior and Barbara Cavallo and many great nieces and nephews.
Internment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill CT 06067 or to a charity of your choice.
