Maureen O’Connell Hughes
North Augusta, SC – Entered into rest Friday, March 21, 2014, Mrs. Maureen O’Connell Hughes, 82, loving wife of William Hughes, Jr.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Hillside Garden Club, The CSRA Shag Club, and of the Irish American Heritage Society. She loved to volunteer at the Medical College of Georgia Pediatric Clinic. She was an avid tennis player, loved to travel, a prankster, and had a great sense of humor. Maureen was loved by all that knew her and will be deeply missed.
Family members in addition to her husband include daughter: Catherine Ann Millar (Doug) of Augusta; and grandchildren: Ryan Millar (Daolinh) of Laos, Ginny Millar of Atlanta, Ben Millar of Charlotte, Patrick Hughes of North Augusta, Maureen Hogan of Tampa, Sean Hogan of Tampa and great grandson, Nathan Millar of Atlanta. She is preceded in death by her son: William Hughes, III; daughter: Susan Marie Hogan; parents: Louis and Mary O’Connell; sister: Claire Ingram; brother: Michael O’Connell; and grandson: Douglas Millar.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Jacob Joseph celebrant. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Doug Millar, Jack Taylor, Harry Kight, Ben Millar, Patrick Hughes, and Craig Bentley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 854 Old Edgefield Rd., North Augusta, SC 29861 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Dr., Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
