Roland H. Lapierre, 76, of Woonsocket died Friday morning at Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Jeannette (Turcotte) Lapierre. They were married on August 8, 1959.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Arthur and Rena (Arel) Lapierre. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Lapierre was employed at Woonsocket Hospital and the former Fogarty Hospital in the maintenance department for over 25 years. He previously worked for Cox & Whitmore Swimming Pools in Norwood, MA. During his retirement years Roland worked as an assistant at several local funeral homes.
Roland was a longtime communicant and usher at St. Joseph Parish in Woonsocket. He was a member of the Woonsocket Knight of Columbus Council # 113 and the Fourth Degree General Stephen Moylan Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. Roland enjoyed camping trips with his family and bowling.
Roland will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather and for his cheerful demeanor.
In addition to his wife of 54 years he is survived by a son Gary R. Lapierre and his companion Melanie Chamberland of Mapleville, and three daughters Jeanne L. Irons and her husband Joseph of Lincoln, Denise P. Brouillard and her husband Robert of North Smithfield, Diane P. Russo and her companion Thomas Mason of Bellingham. He was the brother of Arthur Lapierre of NJ, Richard Lapierre and Raymond Lapierre both of Woonsocket, Delores Languirand of Millville and the late Lorraine Krajczynski and Constance Bogden. He is also survived by five grandchildren David Phaneuf, Robert Brouillard, Brandon Lapierre, Brianna Brouillard, Courtney Lapierre and many nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
