WAYLAND: Emma (Minkoff) Rosow, 100, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Newton Wellesley Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in New York, NY on April 7, 1913 the daughter of the late Paul (Pavel) David Minkoff and Rose (Raisel) Gusinsky Minkoff.
Emma is survived by her son, Carl E. Rosow, M.D., and his wife, Anna Laura, of Wayland; her daughter, Lois Rosow and her Son-in-law, Seth Young, of Columbus, OH; and her Sister-in-law, Eleanor Minkoff, of Farmington Hills, MI. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, David Rosow, M.D. of Miami, FL and Laura Rosow, M.D. of San Francisco, CA, as well as 3 nieces and 4 nephews. She was married to the late William Arthur Rosow, M.D. for 59 years.
Emma had been a resident of Wayland for the past 14 years and was one of the first residents at Traditions of Wayland. She had been a resident of San Mateo, CA, and then Burlingame, CA, from 1952 to 2000. Her formative years were spent in the Detroit, MI area. She received her BA in Education from the University of Michigan and her Masters in Education from Wayne State University. For many years she taught in the field of business education at the high school level, both in Detroit, MI and San Mateo, CA. She also taught for several years in the continuing education area. An avid reader, Emma often read 5-10 books a week. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed needlepoint. She was an independent woman, who kept her mind sharp throughout her life, still surfing the web at age 100. She loved to travel and flew alone at age 93 to London, England. A passionate supporter of liberal politics and Jewish causes, she was a lifelong donor to numerous charities.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on March 28, 2014 at Traditions of Wayland, 10 Green Way, Wayland, MA 01778.
