Obituary

LEICESTER: Marjorie L. (Hurd) Rabidou, 95, of Tanglewood Rd. died Monday, March 17 in her niece’s home in Westminster after an illness.

Her husband Joseph G. Rabidou died in 1993. She leaves a sister Dorothy A. Senecal of Northborough, two nieces; Nadine L. Crowe and her husband Robert of Upton and Julie A. Boudreau of Westminster, three nephews; Gregg H. Senecal and his wife Jane of Shrewsbury, Scott Hurd and his wife Paula of Hardwick and Jeffrey K. Hurd and his wife Wendy of Rutland, six grand-nieces; Ashleigh, Amanda, Lauren, Molly, Abby & Bella, five grand-nephews; Scott, Richard, Adam, Calvin & Benjamin and a close college friend Anna H. Stead of Auburn. She was pre-deceased by her brother Ronald W. Hurd and a nephew Keith W. Hurd.

Mrs. Rabidou was born in Worcester, daughter of Fred and Edythe (Stanton) Hurd. She graduated valedictorian from Leicester High School in 1936, Worcester State College in 1940 with a BS and earned her Masters of Education in 1952. She was a teacher for many years in Leicester, Billerica, Grafton and Worcester at the Abbott Street School and Chandler Jr. High School. She was named “Teacher of the Year” in Worcester in 1981. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Leicester and sang in the choir. She was a member of Leicester Senior Citizens, Leicester F.I.S.H. advisory board, Southern Worcester County Retired Teachers Association, Retired State, County & Municipal Employees Association of Mass. Inc, AARP and the Leicester Women’s Club. She was named Worcester State College Alumni of the Year in 1992 and the Massachusetts Beta Chapter ADK Women of the Year in 1991. She was featured in Nicholas Gage’s Parade & Readers Digest article “The Teacher Who Changed My Life”.

The Funeral will be held Friday, March 21 at 11:00 AM in the First Congregational Church of Leicester, 1 Washburn Square, Leicester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Marjorie Hurd Rabidou Scholarship Fund, C/O Worcester State Foundation, 486 Chandler St., Worcester, MA 01602.
